RMAN checksyntax worth using it

Yesterday I have started RMAN restore and recovery session of my 70 GB Oracle Apps 12.1.3 RAC database in the run block and went to sleep.

When I saw it in the morning, the script got terminated because of some syntax error in the run block. So the whole night has been wasted because of a simple syntax error.

I was checking for any tools in RMAN which can do a syntax check and fortunately I was able to locate the "checksyntax" command which is available from 10g onwards.

One of the powerful commands in RMAN which can be used to check the syntax of big rman scripts which runs for a long time, before start the script we can check the syntax of the script and run it without worrying of the termination of scripts with syntax errors.

The Workflow Mailer uses SMTP, IMAP and HTTP protocols for processing notifications by email. Run the Oracle Workflow ATG Support: R12 Java Mailer Setup Diagnostic Test from Note 748421.1 to do an initial data collection of your Workflow Mailer configuration.
Workflow has been enhanced to provide more diagnostics for EBS Administrators to use to diagnose notification mailer failures as it uses the protocols. The Mailer.class file is provided to collect diagnostic information when the Workflow Mailer uses these protocols.

Additional Diagnostics:
Increase the Workflow Mailer's Log Level to Statement in order to get additional diagnostic information for the Workflow Mailer whenever you see issues sending (SMTP) notifications by email and processing (IMAP) responses from the dedicated inbox assigned to the Workflow Mailer.

Changing the Workflow Mailer Log Level:
Login to E-Business as a user assigned the System Administrator responsibility and navigate:
System Administrator > Oracle Applications Manager > Workflow > Notification Mailers > Edit > Advanced
Reproduce the issue and review the Workflow Mailer Service log which is now being written to with the Log Level set to Statement. The log can be viewed in multiple locations from within E-Business and from the file system.

Login to E-Business as a user assigned the System Administrator responsibility and navigate: System Administrator > Oracle Applications Manager > Workflow > Notification Mailers > View Log

File System:
The Workflow Mailer Service (WFMLRSVC) is a java concurrent manager; therefore, the log is stored in the same location as the other concurrent manager logs on the Concurrent Manager Server node assigned to the Workflow Mailer Service.
$APPLCSF/$APPLLOG is default location. FNDCPGSC.txt is the naming convention of the Workflow Service logs. You can find the concurrent_process_id for the currently active Workflow Mailer Service log using the following query:

Currently the Retention Time is set to 0 on the WF_ERROR queue. This causes all events on the queue to be removed by the Advanced Queue Time Manager (aq_tm_process) as soon as all events on the WF_ERROR queue is processed. Set the Retention Time to 1 day so you can easily determine if your notification issue is due to a workflow error.

Workflow Agent Listeners

Oracle E-Business has evolved to use the latest components of the Oracle Database. One of these components that are used extensively in R12 is Advanced Queuing (AQ) as a core component of Oracle Workflow's Business Event System (BES). Many events loaded into the BES provide core functionality such as for processing notifications by email, XML Gateway transactions, User Maintenance/Administration, and other product specific business logic. These events are processed through our AQ by seeded listeners or by custom listeners. A listener simply pings the queue it is configured to check periodically to see if there are any events enqueued on it that need to be processed or in the case of the mailer for inbound processing, it will check the IMAP user account for any responses in the inbox and enqueue proper responses on the Notification Inbound queue. An event is only raised if there is a subscription assigned to it and the queue used is based on the agent that is assigned to the subscription. Events can be enqueued on our default WF_DEFERRED AQ if the phase on the subscription is greater than 99 for asynchronous processing with or without an agent assigned to the subscription. If the phase is less than or equal to 99, the event is processed synchronously by the agent to which is is assigned. The exception this rule is for Java subscriptions used for middle tier java processing. When a java subscription is assigned to an event, all deferred subscriptions and java subscription are enqueued on the WF_JAVA_DEFERRED queue for asynchronous processing by the Workflow Java Deferred Agent Listener.
Run $FND_TOP/sql/wfbesdbg.sql to collect information about the processing of an event based on the event_name and event_key used when it is raised. It will spool a wfevtdbg.html output file. You may need to rename the in order to be able to review the output in a browser.
Due to the complexity of the naming convention of event keys you must run this diagnostics in this manner to avoid failures.

Workflow Directory Services (WFDS)
The Workflow Directory Services infrastructure is used to store workflow user and roles. This has been enhanced to directly store E-Business users and their responsibility assignments. Each Product group store their own data in WFDS table range partitions that is based on the origination of the data. As the providers of the infrastructure used by the product groups, Workflow Support and Development investigate the following potential failure points when determining if the reported issue can be addressed as a workflow infrastructure issue.
User/responsibility assignments are maintained by the business event system. The events are linked to subscriptions that are either synchronous or asynchronous. Asynchronous subscriptions will be enqueued on either the Workflow Deferred (WF_DEFERRED) or on Workflow Java Deferred (WF_JAVA_DEFERRED) AQ.
Run the Workflow Directory Services (WFDS) Data Collection Script in Note 742062.1 to collect information about an EBS user and their responsibility assignments.

Workflow Purging (WF_PURGE)
WF_PURGE is a workflow server package used to maintain the workflow infrastructure tables containing obsolete runtime data (data generated at the time a workflow process runs) and design time data (workflow design data that is now obsolete due to the workflow design being changed). The Purge Obsolete Workflow Runtime Data concurrent request calls this package to maintain these tables by periodically deleting completed workflow processes from all the tables used to store the meta-data.
Run the WF Purge Data Collection Script in Note 750497.1 to collect information about the size of the workflow runtime tables and the condition of the workflow processes.

After applying the ATG RUP 7 When attempting to navigate to a function which has been newly added to a menu the following error occurs:

STEPS
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Query menu:
2. Add function: and Save.
3. Verify that the menu compilation request (FNDSCMPI module: Compile Security) completed successfully.
4. Log into e-Business Suite and try to navigate to function: .
5. The error occurs.

This issue is caused by launching the menu item before the Compile Security has completed.

When a function is added to a menu , a concurrent program 'Compile Security' is submitted which loads the data in Fnd_Compiled_Menu_Functions table.

Whenever a function is accessed, security code checks Fnd_Compiled_Menu_Functions table to determine whether that function is accessible under the given security context or not. So if this function is accessed before the 'Compile Security' program is finished, the function cache gets loaded with stale data and the reported error message is thrown.

So after modifying the 2 menu definitions associated with 'System Administrator' and 'Application Developer' make sure that 2 concurrent requests submitted for the above 2 modifications completed normally and then try to access the functions.

Further once this error occurs, it will be cached which means that even after the menu item has been flagged as available, it the error will be returned from the cache.

Solution

1) Manually run the 'Compile Security' concurrent program, set the parameter to YES.
2) Shut down Middle Tier (Apache)
3) Delete the contents of $OA_HTML/_pages directory (11.5.10 only).
4) Restart Middle tier

How to recover from a corruption of an object in system tablespace

RMAN cloning using duplicate command

1) Make a copy of the following TARGET directories under
DB Tier:
Archive log backup
Control file backuup
Database full backup
Apps Tier:Apps tech

2) Configure the Oracle Home
Target – Apps/DB

Overwrite the dbs, appsutil, network/admin directories with the previously copied directories.
Rename the $ORACLE_HOME/admin/ PROD_perp to DBA_mperp.

3) Copy the Apps file system to target.
Target-Apps
This can be done along with copying the database Oracle Home files.

4) Edit the init_SID.ora
Add a parameter remote_login_passwordfile=EXCLUSIVE
Add following parameters:db_file_name_convert=('/u02/oracle/PROD/db/apps_st/data','/u02/oracle/DBA/db/apps_st/data') log_file_name_convert=('/u02/oracle/PROD/db/apps_st/data','/u02/oracle/DBA/db/apps_st/data')

5) Create the password file

When there is such a conflict between and existing patch and the patch being applied you should compare the bugs fixed in both the patches. The conflict arises when a patch being applied contains a file that is also included in another patch manually applied on top of the current installed patchset. As there is no version information the conflicting patch message appears.
Obtain a copy of each patch and compare the 'inventory' file or the 'readme' file. These files contain a list of bugs fixed by each patch. These files exist within the patch zip file. Extract the patch zip to view either of these files
Compare the bugs listed. What you are looking for is to make sure that the patch being applied has all the bugs mentioned that are fixed in the existing patch. In other words, before rolling back the existing patch you want to make sure the bugs it fixes are included in the new patch being applied.
If all the patches listed in the existing patch are included in the patch being applied you can safely continue the patch.
In some cases the patch being applied may not contain all the bug fixes that are included with the existing patch. If you do not require the missing patches you can safely continue patch application.

Cause

The problem is due to an incorrect environment setup. The custom PROD_TOP is not defined in the environment files.
Solution

Any custom product_top needs to be defined correctly in the Context File. The following extract describes how to add a custom product_top to the Context File by using Oracle Applications Manager:

You can create an AutoConfig template file of your own. This will enable you to develop custom applications that AutoConfig configures and maintains.

On trying to open or to compile a reports module file (RDF) in Reports Builder, the Builder crashes.Opening a Forms module file (FMB) in the Forms Builder crashes the Builder.Error(s)Windows Vista complains there has been a problem in Reports Builder and is trying to work it out.But eventually, it states that Reports Builder is going to be closed.

This is because despite applying patchset 10.1.2.3 there are still issues in the 10.1.0.5 DB client causing the crashes.

Standard manager fails to start

A concurrent program that had its basepath defined wrong when it was registered was submitted. which caused the standard manager to crash. and since the concurrent program was in the standard manager queue, the manager would crash as soon as the concurrent managers are restarted since the program is executed as soon as the concurrent managers are online. None of the log files reported any error except in the manager log of the deactivated processes ( of the standard manager) in the front end. all of the deactivated processes log's contained the request ID of the concurrent program.

The solution was to remove the concurrent program from the queue and correct the basepath of the concurrent program under the system administrator -> applications -> register to the correct custom top path as in the OS level and restart the concurrent managers.

The error above is a bit misleading. adcfgclone.pl should not be creating a "temp.xml" file under appsutil, The context file created under "/u01/PROD/oracle/920/appsutil" should be _.xml.
Normally adcfgclone.pl is trying to do is, create files under /usr/tmp and/or /tmp.
Check if you have a temp.xml file or other RapidClone files under either of those directories owned by a different user? If so please delete them and retry adcfgclone.pl.

R12/11i Getting Aferror.log File Created On Client PC Desktop

A file named "aferror.log" appearing on their client pc desktops. The file has a size of 'zero bytes'.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Login to the 11i/R12 homepage
2. Launch a form
3. Press the x button in your browser on the page that states "Important: do not close this window"... this will kill the forms session
4. Select logout on the homepage
5. Login again to the 11i/R12 homepage
6. Launch a form the aferror.log will appear on your desktop

This is a known issue and is described in Bug 6825183 "R12 GETTING AFERROR FILE CREATED ON DESKTOP"

Solution:

To resolve the problem on Release 12 apply Patch 6866258

1. You can disable the use of "Distributed JVM cache" by disabling LONG_RUNNING_JVM- set oc4j.properties: ==> LONG_RUNNING_JVM= to "false"

1. Assign an available port for "Distributed JVM cache" by using the following steps
a) Set the correct port in your Context File -> parameter "s_java_object_cache_port"

Common reasons for OUI failures on the MS Windows platforms

Here are the most common reasons why the OUI will fail to run, on any Microsoft Windows Operating System:

1. Operating System Permissions: Oracle recommends running the OUI as an Administrator. However, sometimes using an account that belongs to the Administrator group is not enough. Thus, whenever there is a problem running the OUI, we will recommend using the Local Administrator account. There is a difference between the Local Administrator account and a user account that has Administrator privledges. To determine if the failure is related to OS Permissions, we always recommend you login as the Local Administrator of the machine. Then run the OUI. If the OUI runs correctly, then the problem is with your OS account.

2. Remote Connection Utilities: Trying to run the OUI over a remote connection (such as Terminal Services, Remote Desktop, etc..) can cause the OUI to not run. While it may work for some customers, if there is a problem when using any of these remote connection utilities, we will ask that you login to the server console directly, and try the install. If the install works on the server console, and not over your remote connection, then the problem is with the remote connection utility. A lot of times, the problem is due to the way the remote connection utility is setup / configured.

3. Software conflicts: There is a possibility of the OUI failing, due to conflicts with other software. Some things to check: Make sure there is not a newer version of Java installed. For example, the 10g OUI uses the JDK 1.4.2 (installed when Oracle is installed). If there is a newer version of the JDk installed on the system (for example, the 1.5 version), it can cause a problem with the OUI. Check your PATH. If you find a newer (or older) version of the JDK installed, remove it from the PATH (you do not have to remove the software, just from the PATH). NOTE: It is ok to have other JDKs installed from other Oracle Products. These normally do not cause a problem.

4. Services Running: There have been a few cases where having some services running (even if they are not being used) can cause a problem. For example, the Terminal Services service was running (the customer was not connected over a Terminal Services Session), and it caused a problem. Once the Service was stopped, the OUI ran fine. You can look at what services are running, and try stopping any service that is not needed by Windows.

5. Spaces in the directory names: Make sure you do not have any spaces in the directory name, where you are installing the software from. This includes new installs and patches. If a space exists in the directory name, you will need to remove it.Another place to check for spaces is in the TEMP and TMP variables. These are used for the initial installation, for a temporay location for the OUI. However, if a space exists in the TEMP and TMP variables, the OUI will fail. By Default, Windows sets the TEMP and TMP locations for a user, to: C:\Documents and Settings\%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temp.Notice the spaces in the directory names.This should be changed to something like: C:\TEMP (NOTE: Make sure the directory exists).

It is recommended to recompile all forms and reports when connecting to a new RDBMS.

1) This will act as a health-check to confirm that all dependent RDBMS objects are present andvalid. (Review the compile output for any errors)

2) Timestamps of RDBMS objects may be newer than the depending forms/reports objects.

3) If the new RDBMS uses a different schema to house database objects, the reference in thecompiled forms/reports will no longer be valid, and problems will occur.

4) The recompilation can be done using a batch script, so it is not required to spend timerecompiling each form/report manually

Moving Forms Applications From One Platform To Another

For this example the assumption is that the "development" machine is a MS Windows platform and the "deployment" machine is a Unix platform.
IMPORTANT: FMX, MMX, and PLX files are NOT portable between platforms. They are also not portable between major versions. For example, you cannot run a 9.0.4 FMX in a 10.1.2 environment. Source code (FMB, MMB, PLL) must be recompiled when moving from one platform and/or major version to another. This includes moving from one Unix platform to another (i.e. Sun Solaris to Linux) or one Windows platform version to another.
( FRM-40031: File xxxxx.fmx is not a Forms Runtime File.)
Failure to correctly compile source files on the machine where they are being deployed will cause instability or prevent the application from running or may cause trigger code to not fire.
Requirements for "deployment" machine:
Log-in access as the "oracle" user
X-session (GUI)
It is NOT supported to perform the following via a remote session.

1. Verify that the deployment environment has been correctly installed and configured as documented in the product Installation Guide.

2. Create a staging directory where the application source files (FMB, MMB, PLL, OLB) can be stored permanently or temporarily. This directory will also be where the compiled executables (FMX, MMX, PLX) will be created. For example:
mkdir /u02/oracle/ias904_mid/forms90/myApplication

3. Copy/transfer all of the Forms components which make up the application to the directory created in step 2. These will include FMB, MMB, PLL and OLB files.
IMPORTANT: Unix is a case sensitive operating system. Be sure that any references to files within your application have been corrected to match files on the new file system. This will usually impact references to image (icon) files, other forms, menus, and libraries.

4. Copy/transfer all other application files as needed. These files may include custom resource (.res), image or custom JARs files. These files will need to be placed in specific locations based on how you developed the application. Refer to the product documentation for more details.
IMPORTANT: If transferring using FTP, all files must be transferred in binary mode.
The following steps must be performed from the local "deployment" machine. Performing these steps remotely is not supported.

5. Open a shell session.

6. Set the ORACLE_HOME variable and point it to the Application Server installation. Be sure to use the appropriate syntax for the particular shell you are using. For example in csh the command would look something like this:
export ORACLE_HOME=/u02/oracle/ias904_mid

7. Set the FORMS90_PATH variable to the directory which was created in step 2. For example:
export FORMS90_PATH=/u02/oracle/ias904_mid/forms90/myApplication
Additional variables may be necessary or desired based on your needs and system configuration. Here are a few examples:
TNS_ADMIN
NLS_LANG
CLASSPATH
TERM
DISPLAY
In most cases, setting these will not be necessary if you use the provided script (.sh file) noted in the next step.
When compiling a Forms application it is important to understand the application. Most important is to understand the dependencies which may exist between components. In other words, for example you will not be able to compile an FMB if it has a dependant PLL which has not yet been compiled. In most cases the order in which compiling should occur is as follows:
1. PLL
2. MMB
3. FMB
There are exceptions, but this will work in most cases.

8. Using the compiler, generate "X" files for all of the application's binaries (PLL, MMB, FMB). The command will be something like the following:
f90genm.sh module=myForm module_type=form compile_all=yes userid=scott/tiger@orcl

2. in System Administrator responsibility, go to Profile > System

3. select your newly created responsibility in the Responsibility field

4. Select HR:Query Only Mode in the Profile field

6. save

The new responsibility will have access to all the data but the user will not be able to update anything.

2.- Check the baseHTML and baseHTMLJInitiator variables inside the file. They point to theappsbase.htm file used in the forms (ussually is the same file for both)

4.- Go to the "// Forms Applet Parameters" section related to the client browser you use

5.- Check if there's a line that references to "PARAM name=logo". An example of how that line mustbe for Internet Explorer is:

add or change that line according to what you have and what you want.

6.- Go to the "// Oracle Applications default Parameters" section in the same file

IE "Unknown Publisher" Message when Running a Form after Initial 11g Installation

After a new installation of 11g Forms the following url is entered in IE to run the test form:
http://machine.domain:port/forms/frmservlet and the following occurs:

"Unknown Publisher"

This occurs because JRE 1.6.0.12 or higher is not installed on the client machine and because of Bug 8747086 FORMS 11 FORMSWEB.CFG INCORRECTLY CONFIGURED FOR SUN JRE AUTODOWNLOAD
Forms 11.1.1.1.0 is configured to run with Sun JRE 1.6.0.12 or higher. If this is not installed on the client machine it normally should be automatically downloaded when using IE but is not due to this bug.

Steps for IE ->

1. Locate the formsweb.cfg in DOMAIN_HOME\servers\WLS_FORMS\stage\formsapp\11.1.1\formsapp\config

2. Change the following:

Obtaining Forms Runtime Diagnostics (FRD) In Oracle Applications 11i

This method enables users to run FRD tracing through the Personal Home Page by setting debugging to true using the profile option 'ICX: Forms Launcher'.
When accessing Applications through the Personal Home Page (PHP), there is no way to pass command line parameters such as config=debug and record=all for the duration of a single session.
For example, you cannot add these variables to the PHP connect string

$FORMS60_TRACE_PATH or they are created in 8.0.6 $ORACLE_HOME/forms60/log directory.

Steps:

To start tracing in this way, modify Profile Option 'ICX: Forms Launcher' at USER level to include the Forms parameters required for FRD logging:

1. Make the user value for profile option 'ICX: Forms Launcher' the same as the site value

2. Reproduce the steps that you wish to trace in Applications.

3. Exit Applications and logout.

4. Locate the trace file at the server. In the above example, the forms runtime diagnostic trace information will be created to file form1.frd in /tmp or in c:\temp directory depending on the platform on which Applications is installed.

How to run Forms Runtime Diagnostics (FRD) in 10gR2 Forms.

FRD is a runtime event-based logging system intended to aid in the debugging of Forms
applications. FRD is enabled at runtime on a user by user basis. When a form is run with
FRD enabled, a combination of external user-application interactions and internal Forms
processing events are written in chronological order to a log on the file system. These events
can then be analyzed by both application developers, and Oracle support staff. FRD is not
intended to be used as a performance benchmarking tool or as a mechanism for gauging code
coverage.
FRD generates extensive output useful for analysis and debugging, and it is therefore
recommended FRD be utilized as a logging mechanism only when specific issues are
encountered.

To implement FRD do the following:

In the $ORACLE_HOME/forms/server/default.env (or whatever env file you are using), add the environment variable FORMS_TRACE_DIR specifying a physical directory on the Application Server machine. The FRD log file will be written into the directory specified.

In the formsweb.cfg create a config section something like: [my_frd] otherparams=record=collect log=my_frd.txt form=my_form.fmx

Then call this from a url using the config section.

Trace the files loaded in java console while Oracle forms are invoked

All resource limits for DEFAULT profile is set to UNLIMITED, but only for FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS attribute, it’s set to some value (10). Due to this the user account keeps getting locked(timed).When we check in the Oracle Documentations, it’s stated that FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS attribute for DEFAULT profile has been changed from 10.2.0.1 from UNLIMITED to 10.

What we can do is, either we may need to change the resource limit for FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS attribute in DEFAULT profile, or create a new profile for that user with FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS attribute value set to UNLIMITED. But for security reasons, we will not tamper the DEFAULT profile, which is not recommended too. Then let’s go for creating a new profile and assign that profile to the user.

Purge Concurrent Request and/or Manager Data (FNDCPPUR) program completes and it deletes concurrent request information from database but relevant files are not removed from the operating system (OS) file system. Concurrent request Log file shows file deletion failed as below.
For example

* denotes file deletion failed.

Cause:
The cause of this problem has been identified in Bug 6451570. It is caused by the domain name entry. The system manager_node entry contains the domain also. Therefore comparison between manager_node and node_name fails causing the files not to delete from OS (Unix,Windows,..) file system.

Solution
To implement the solution, Please execute the following steps if you are on 11i
1) Please download and review the readme for Patch 7210178
2) Please apply Patch 7210178 in a test environment.
3) Please confirm the following file versions: afppur.lpc 115.35 You can use the commands like the following: strings -a $FND_TOP/bin/FNDCPPUR grep afppur
4) Please retest the issue.
5) If the issue is resolved, please migrate the solution as appropriate to other environments.

How To Access Forms Directly In Oracle Applications R12

By default in Oracle Applications R12, users are not able to access Forms directly via the following url:
http://hostname.domain:port/forms/frmservlet
The following error would pop out:
APP-FND-01542: This Applications Server is not authorized to access this database.

The goal of this document is to allow users access to the Oracle Applications R12 directly via Forms especially in cases where access to the following url is not available:

http://hostname.domain:port/OA_HTML/AppsLogin
NOTE: Accessing Forms directly is not supported and should only be used for diagnostic and troubleshooting purposes.

Solution
1. Edit $CONTEXT_FILE which is located in $INST_TOP/appl/admin
2. ChangeSECUREtoOFF
Application Server Security Authentication can take one of the following values {ON, OFF, SECURE}.OFF - Server security is not checked. Any application server machine can access the database.ON - Some level of trust is required to access the database. Either the Application Server is registered with the database or the module and version ID are known to be trusted.SECURE - Full trust is required for access to the database. Only registered Application Server machines and trusted code modules may connect.
3. Run $INST_TOP/admin/scripts/adautocfg.sh to instantiate the changes
4. Users are now able to access Forms directly.

Oracle Alert Does Not Sent Any Emails After Applying Patch 4676589 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 4

A new feature has been introduced in Oracle Alert as of 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 4 and this has been described in Note 365228.1 About Oracle Applications Technology 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 4:

Oracle Alert now leverages the Workflow Notification Mailer to send alerte-mail messages and process responses. However, if you implemented responseprocessing in an earlier release, you can continue running the Oracle AlertResponse Processor as long as necessary to handle responses to alert messagessent prior to Oracle Applications Technology Family Pack 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 4.Before this enhancement, it was possible to specify via which mailing system Oracle Alert would send out the emails. The Oracle Alerts Options Window (System -> Options) has the following predefined Mail Systems:
Unix sendmail
Oracle InterOffice
VMS Mail
Windows NT Mail
The enhancement for the Workflow Notification Mailer has been implemented as of alssmn.lc 115.17 and higher.

Solution
Any environment which has 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 4 or later applied will no longer use any of the above listed Mail Systems like e.g. the Unix sendmail for sending out emails. Instead, this is done by the Workflow Notification Mailer (also known as Java Workflow Mailer) which sends and receives alert e-mail messages. The notification mailer uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) for outbound messages and the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) for inbound messages.There are several benefits which justify this change in functionality :

Oracle Alert was using old technology which didn't support the new MAPI for Windows NT .
The Workflow Notification Mailer uses the latest technology for handling both incoming and outgoing e-mail messages.
Eliminates the requirement of setting up multiple mailing systems for a single E-Business Suite environment : e.g. one for Oracle Alert and a second for Oracle Workflow.

Detailed instructions on setting up the Workflow Notification Mailer for Oracle Alert are described in the Oracle Alert User's Guide - Setup Steps (page 9-3). After new installation of OracleAS, it is not possible to start web Forms in IE.
It crashes without event loading the java applet. on jvm.dll @ 0x006d3fe348

We have executed the following steps:
1. Copy the jvm.dll (C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\client) from Sun JRE 6.0 Update
( 1 -6 )or JRE 5.0 Update ( 5 - 13 )

2. Download the jinitiator through the URL,http://hostname:port/OA_HTML/oajinit.exe

3. Install the jinitiator in C:/Program Files

4. Paste the jvm.dll into Jinitiator's hotspot directory replacing the jvm.dll after a backup (C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.21\bin\hotspot) file.

But the problem persists.

We tested it with Fire fox and works fine.

Solution
The likely cause of the issue is an incompatibility between Jinitiator and a 3rd-party browser extension.
You can test this by disabling 3rd-party browser extensions as follows:
1. Navigate IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - untick 'enable third-party browser extensions'
2. Re-start IE and re-test

Unknown OracleAS Home Type Error Executing Runstartupconsole.Sh in a Middle Tier Home

When using the command runstartupconsole.sh to start up an Application Server 10g (10.1.2.x.x) Middle Tier on unix/linux, the following error is reported to the screen:

'I have encountered an unknown OracleAS Home type Business' (For a BI and Forms Middle Tier)

or

'I have encountered an unknown OracleAS Home type Portals' (For a Portal and Wireless Middle Tier)

The same command works fine when executed in an AS Infrastructure Oracle Home.

The runstartupasconsole.sh script is just a wrapper for opmnctl/emctl. To workaround the script failure execute the following commands:

To start:
$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl start iasconsole

To stop:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/emctl stop iasconsole
$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall

How to determine what email system is being utilized for Oracle Alert processing?

This depends on whether the following patch has been applied: 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 4 (RUP4) (Patch 4676589)

If unsure, check the file version of ALRALERT.fmx. Using Alert Manager responsibility, navigate to Alert / Define. From the menu, choose Help / About Oracle Applications. Under the heading Current Form, determine the version of: ALRALERT.fmx. If this version shows 11.5.55 or higher, then patch 4676589 HAS been applied.

If the patch 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 4 (RUP4) (4676589), has been applied then all Alert email will be sent through Workflow Mailer. For more information about this Mailer see:

Sometimes it might be necessary to generate a specific form due to several
possible reasons.

Here I will explain the steps to do so.

1) From a command line session, with OS applications user (i.e.: applmgr),
start ADADMIN utility. Please note that if your system is configured using
more than one tier, you should run this utility from the server which hosts
the forms server.

UNIX:

$ $AD_TOP/bin/adadmin

NT (From an ENVSHELL Command line session:

C:\ORACLE\PRODAPPL> %AD_TOP%\bin\adadmin.exe

2) Reply the questions as required:

Your default directory is '/u01/oracle/aol11iappl'.
Is this the correct APPL_TOP [Yes] ?
{If the above is true, then hit the [Enter] key).

AD Administration records your AD Administration session in a text file
you specify. Enter your AD Administration log file name or press [Return]
to accept the default file name shown in brackets.

Filename [adadmin.log] :

(Here you can record your adadmin session in a specific log file. If you want
adadmin to record your session, please enter a valid filename.
This log file will be saved in $APPL_TOP/admin//log
directory).

You can be notified by email if a failure occurs.
Do you wish to activate this feature [No] ?

(This option only works in UNIX and the purpose of this question is to
notify AD administrator by mail if any failure ocurred while adadmin running
in unattended mode).

Please enter the batchsize [1000] :

(This option asks for a specific batch size, to reserve memory when
adadmin validates package and procedure information. This option only
is meaningful when running database administrative related tasks.
For the purpose of generating a form, you can leave the default value.)

After this last step, the utility will read the ad configuration file and
display related information. The next step which requires user interaction
is:

You are about to use or modify Oracle Applications product tables
in your ORACLE database 'aol11i'
using ORACLE executables in '/u01/oracle/aol11iora/8.0.6'.

Is this the correct database [Yes] ?

(If correct, please hit the [Enter] key. Otherwise, exit this utility
by typing "abort" plus the [Enter] key and verify if your environment
has
been sourced correctly).

AD Administration needs the password for your 'SYSTEM' ORACLE schema
in order to determine your installation configuration.

Enter the password for your 'SYSTEM' ORACLE schema:

(Here you must enter your SYSTEM database user password. There is no
default, since ADADMIN has no way to determine SYSTEM's password).

The ORACLE username specified below for Application Object Library

at the left of the mentioned option (in this case, 7).

4) Now, you will be asked the for the number of parallel workers that
will start generating forms

In order to determine the optimal number of workers for your system,
you should consider the following:

Total of available workers for your system = Amount of processors x 3

But in our case, we will generate only ONE form, so there is no need to
invoke 3 workers. In our example, we will generating one single form
but for 2 languages US (American English) and ESA (Latin American
Spanish), so the number of workers needed will be 2.

5) The next question is:

Your current character set is "WE8ISO8859P1".

Do you want to generate Oracle Forms objects
using this character set [Yes] ?

If this is your correct character set, please hit [Enter]. Otherwise,
please verify your environment.

6) Do you want to regenerate Oracle Forms PL/SQL library files [Yes] ?

In this case, we will not generate any PL/SQL library, so you might reply 'n'
to the above question.

7) Do you want to regenerate Oracle Forms menu files [Yes] ?

Same as above: Please reply 'n' to this question.

8) Do you want to regenerate Oracle Forms executable files [Yes] ?

Here, we will hit [Enter] to accept the default 'Yes'.

9) Enter list of products ('all' for all products) [all] :

Now, we need to specify the Application short name. (gl, for General Ledger,
ap for Payables, and so on). In our example we will be using module fnd
(Application Object Library). The entry must be typed using lowercase
characters.

10) Generate specific forms objects for each selected product [No] ?

We need to answer 'y' to this question, since it will regenerate all
forms for the module selected on step 9.

11) The next question is:

The current set of installed languages is: US ESA

Please select languages for generating Oracle Forms files.
You may select all of the above languages, or just a subset.

Enter list of languages ('all' for all of the above) [all] :

in this case, you will reply 'all', since we will regenerate
the form for all existing languages.

1. Go to Apps tier and create the appsutil.zip file:
perl /bin/admkappsutil.pl
2. Copy the generated appsutil.zip file under $INST_TOP/admin/out to the new upgrade Oracle_Home directory.
3. Unzip it in there:
cd $ORACLE_HOME unzip -o appsutil.zip
4. Install the jre in the appsutil directory: Copy the jre from the old $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/jre to the new $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil directory. Or download the jre from the Sun website.
5. Create the context file in the new Oracle Home:
perl /appsutil/bin/adbldxml.pl
Note: Script adbldxml.pl can be installed with each of the following patches on release 12.0. If you do not have this script please apply only one chosen patch.

ERROR : Restart discrepancy in aidrrl3()

Adpatch updates the restart file corresponding to a worker after each worker is complete. This allows adpatch to restart from that a point onwards in case it is aborted. If the restart file can not be updated then a synchronization problem will occur between the AutoPatch session and the particular restart file. The restart file will then be deemed as corrupt. The worker would fail and AutoPatch will not be able to continue.

A file permission problem, disk space exhausted or an operating system process with exclusive lock on the file are just few examples of why adpatch will encounter errors when updating a restart file.

This is the best solution to ensure a correct and clean patch application if this error is encountered :

1. Abort the current AutoPatch session.

2. Take a backup copy of the contents of the $APPL_TOP/admin//restart directory. Once the patch is complete, this back up directory may be deleted.

3. Delete the contents of the $APPL_TOP/admin//restart directory. Do not delete the directory itself.

4. Login to SQL*Plus as the APPLSYS user and drop the FND_INSTALL_PROCESSES and AD_DEFERRED_JOBS tables.

5. Reapply the failing patch. Run AutoPatch as follows:
$ adpatch options=nocopyportion

Note the following:(A) Since an earlier iteration of the patch already copied the required files, the copy phase of the patch may be skipped. The nocopyportion parameter specified with adpatch will only perform the database and generate portions of the patch. The copy portion is complete as the worker processes are not used by this part of the patch application.

1. Stop the Oracle Cluster Services using the following command through root user in both the nodes,
$CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl stop resources
Crsctl query crs softwareversion
Crsctl quesr crs activeversion

2. Ensure no CRS services are running

3. Run the patch set 5337014 through as Oracle user (/Clusterware/Disk1/runInsaller)

4. Select the home as CRSHome and it’ll automatically set the path to (/CRS/app/10.2.0), where the CRS is installed in both the nodes

5. Click next, this window will show about the cluster configuration information and shows the nodes where this patcchset is going to be installed.

6. Click next, this will show the summary of the components that are going to be installed

7. Once the installation is over, we need to run the script root.sh as root user, once it’s done the CRS will be started automatically

8. Check it using the following command,
ps –ef grep CRS or $ ps –ef grep –I crs or $CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl check crs

9. Check the version using the following command,
$CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl query crs softwareversion
$CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl quesr crs activeversion

10. Stop the CRS,
$CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl stop resources

11. Run the shell script located at $CRS_HOME/install/root102.sh at each node

12. Edit /etc/init.d/init.crs to make the following changes in both the nodes,
chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw1
chown root:dba /dev/raw/raw3
chmod 644 /dev/raw/*

13. Start the CRS using the following command,
$CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl start

14. Check the crsctl status using,
$ ps -ef grep CRS
$ $CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl check crs

Adding a new node to cluster

1. Run the addnode.sh ($ORA_CRS_HOME/oui/bin) in one of the existing nodes as the oracle user

2.The OUI Welcome screen will appear, click next.

3.On the "Specify Cluster Nodes to Add to Installation" screen, add the public and private node names (these should exist in /etc/hosts and should be pingable from each of the cluster nodes), click next.

4.The "Cluster Node Addition Summary" screen will appear, click next.

5. The "Cluster Node Addition Progress" screen will appear, then it’ll be prompt us to run rootaddnode.sh as the root user. First verify that the CLSCFG information in the rootaddnode.sh script is correct. It should contain the new public and private node names and node numbers.

Example:

$CLSCFG -add -nn ,2 -pn ,2 -hn ,2
Then run the rootaddnode.sh script on the EXISTING node you ran the
addNode.sh from. Example:

su root
cd $ORA_CRS_HOME
sh -x rootaddnode.sh

Once this is finished, click OK in the dialog box to continue.

6. Next you will see the "End of Installation" screen. At this point we can exit the installer.

7. Change the ownership of all CRS Homes back to root.

8. Edit /etc/init.d/init.crs to make the following changes,
chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw1
chown root:dba /dev/raw/raw3
chmod 644 /dev/raw/*

9. Check the crsctl status using,
$ ps -ef grep CRS
$ $CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl check crs

Installing CRS (Oracle Clustwerware)

1. Configure the SSH
To configure SSH you need to perform the following steps on each node in the cluster.
$ cd
$HOME
$ mkdir .ssh
$ chmod 700 .ssh
$ cd .ssh$ /usr/bin/ssh-keygen -t rsa
Now accept the default location for the key fileEnter and confirm a passphrase. (you can also press enter twice).

$ /usr/bin/ssh-keygen -t dsa

Now accept the default location for the key fileEnter and confirm a passphrase. (you can also press enter twice).

$ cat *.pub > authorized_keys. (nodeX could be the nodename to differentiate files later)

Now do the same steps on the other nodes in the cluster.When all those steps are done on the other nodes, start to copy the authorized_keys. to all the nodes into $HOME/.ssh/
For example if you have 4 nodes you will have after the copy in the .ssh 4 files with the name authorized_keys.
Then on EACH node continue the configuration of SSH by doing the following:

$ cd $HOME/.ssh$ cat *.node* > authorized_keys
$ ssh node1 cat /home/oracle/.ssh/id_rsa.pub >> authorized_keys
oracle@node1’s password:
$ ssh node1 cat /home/oracle/.ssh/id_dsa.pub >> authorized_keys
To test that everything is working correct now execute the commands
$ ssh date

2. Source the following commands in the session you are going to start the OUI,
$ exec /usr/bin/ssh-agent $SHELL$ /usr/bin/ssh-add

3. After resintallation proceed the new install in the path /CRS/app/crs

4. The Oracle Cluster Registry value is /dev/raw/raw3

5. The Voting Disk is /dev/raw/raw1

6. Edit /etc/init.d/init.crs to make the following changes,
chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw1
chown root:dba /dev/raw/raw3
chmod 644 /dev/raw/*

7. Check the crsctl status using,
$ ps -ef grep CRS
$ $CRS_HOME/bin/crsctl check crs

8. Private connect - 192.168.xx.xx

9. Public Connect - 10.80.xx.xx

Installing Dutch NLS

- Make sure to have a valid backup of the applications system
- Make sure the latest AD.I has been applied
- Make sure all the terminologies has been understood from Note # 399789.1
- Apply the database patch # 5005469 else multi-lingual update will fail on ICXNLINS.sql, CSNLINS.sql
- Apply patch # 6908630 else the PNXVAREN.fmx will fail
- Check the v$nls_parameters

- Change language configuration:
Use the Oracle Applications Manager (OAM) License Manager tool to change the language configuration or activate a new language in an existing system.

Select the “Dutch” language and install it,
- Update multilingual tables:
Update all multilingual tables using ADADMIN. Run adadmin and navigate to:
Maintain Applications Database Entities menu -> Maintain multi-lingual tables
- Log on to Applications' administration node as the APPLMGR user and source the APPL_TOP environment file. Use the manifest generation tool to generate a manifest file by executing the following command:
